Chinachem Group regards the fulfilment of corporate social responsibility to be one of its core values and is committed to building sustainable homes for Hong Kong people. As Hong Kong enters the era of aging populations, how to provide a dignified and quality lifestyle for our elderly citizens has become an immense challenge.
While Chinese cultural traditions tell us that living your later years at home is the epitome of familial bliss. Chinachem believes that the best way to facilitate the dream of home retirement is to create and adapt housing design to be inclusive and supportive to residents of all age and different capacities. To this end, Chinachem is determined to incorporate age-friendly design features into future development projects. Four major criteria of these design features include spacious planning, barrier-free facilities, suitable building height, and accessible age-inclusive community facilities.
It is Chinachem’s future mission to provide our senior citizens with comfortable homes designed with theirs and benefits in mind. Chinachem hopes that with the support from industries and the public, we can together foster an age-friendly community in Hong Kong.

The Council for Sustainable Development launched the public interaction phase of the public engagement on Long-term Decarbonisation Strategy on 14 June. The public engagement aims to arouse public awareness on the impact of carbon emissions, and gauge the views of the community in developing feasible strategies for carbon reduction, with a view to making recommendations to the Government by the end of this year.
The Chairman of the Council for Sustainable Development, Professor Arthur LI said, "Climate change is an imminent global challenge. Mitigating climate change is not just for ourselves, but also for our children and future generations. Concerted efforts of the Government and civic society are required to promote and implement the decarbonisation strategy."
The Council also released a Public Engagement Document to highlight three main topics for public discussion:
- Transition towards a low-carbon society
- Reducing energy use and further decarbonising electricity generation
- Low-carbon transport in a smart city
The Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) has successfully mentored Hungary Green Building Council (HuGBC) to achieve Established Member status of the World Green Building Council (World GBC). HKGBC started the mentoring in 2016 by a visit to Hungary. Throughout the past three years, HKGBC has provided professional advice to HuGBC to enhance their operation. At the World GBC Board Meeting held on 12 June 2019, Hungary GBC successfully attained the Established Member status. We sincerely congratulate the HuGBC for their achievements!
World GBC is a global network of national green building councils. HKGBC has been an Established Member (the highest level of membership) since November 2012.

Green Hospital creates natural environment
Apart from saving lives, hospitals are providing quality environment for patients’ recovery. Nowadays, green building elements are being added to the hospitals. Greenery surrounding the site and penetration of natural light into interior spaces, can help create a natural environment. More and more scientific evidence shows that maintaining close connection with nature can bring myriads of physical and mental benefits to humans, hence there are researches suggesting these green building features would bring positive impact to patients’ recovery.
Recently, the Tin Shui Wai Hospital has achieved Final Platinum under the BEAM Plus New Buildings. Over 30% of the site area is covered with greenery. Rainwater harvesting system is also installed, in order to save the use of water for irrigation. Some other new hospitals achieved BEAM Plus certification as well in recent years. The Hong Kong Children Hospital achieved Provisional Platinum rating, while Yaumatei Specialist Clinic at Queen Elizabeth Hospital attained the Final Gold rating.
