Call for Nomination - WorldGBC Asia Pacific Leadership in Green Building Awards for 2020 - Women in Green Building Leadership Award
Since 2014, the HKGBC has actively nominated pioneers with outstanding contributions to the sustainability of Asia Pacific’s built environment to represent Hong Kong to compete for the WorldGBC Asia Pacific Leadership in Green Building Awards.
The WorldGBC Asia Pacific Leadership in Green Building Awards 2020 showcase and celebrate the achievements of businesses and innovators which are leading the way on sustainability in buildings in the Asia Pacific Region. A HKGBC appointed Selection Panel will select The Award Winners of Green Building Award (GBA) 2019 to contest for The Business Leadership in Sustainability Award and The Leadership in Sustainable Design & Performance Award.
The Women in Green Building Leadership Award, in its 2nd edition, is to pay tribute to an inspiring female leader in green building movement. In a traditionally male-dominated industry, WorldGBC would like to recognise the pivotal role that women play in nurturing and activating their communities and delivering change.
The HKGBC is calling for nomination on this biennial award for outstanding female leader till 29 May 2020 (Friday). Please take action to nominate powerful ladies who are tireless in driving the advancement of green building development for this global award! Please click HERE to nominate now!
Can Hong Kong be the city advancing high density net zero?
The HKGBC has recently established a Sustainable Development Committee (SDC) to accelerate the decarbonisation of our built environment. This Committee will develop carbon reduction target setting tools and certification mechanisms; identify and drive multidisciplinary researches; and advocate for incentives, policy and regulatory reform that will facilitate Hong Kong’s transition towards a net zero.
Some challenges that will be tackled under this Committee include: how urban planning can contribute to a lower carbon footprint whilst enhancing liveability; what passive design and construction strategies are effective in creating super low energy highrises; what innovative active systems and renewable energy technologies can be integrated into new low/net zero carbon building design and in the low carbon retrofit of existing buildings; and how can we incentivise retro-commissioning and low carbon retrofitting in the Greater Bay Area and beyond…

BEAM Plus Existing Buildings Volume Certification enables property owners, developers and facility managers to have portfolios of green existing buildings certified in a faster and more economical manner. Since launch in October last year, more than 100 properties have been registered and over 500 buildings are in the pipeline of registration. Recently, several portfolios have already been assessed. As a pilot project, “Pilot on SHK Portfolio Certification” has achieved Excellent grade in Management Aspect. Two other portfolios – “Nan Fung Property Management Phase 1” and “Go Green under BEAM Plus EB Certification by Hong Yip Service Company Limited – Member of Sun Hung Kai Properties Group”, have achieved Good grade in Management Aspect. In total, 50 buildings have been certified under Volume Certification.
Green management practice is of paramount importance to maintain the sustainability performance of existing buildings. By undergoing BEAM Plus Existing Buildings Volume Certification, it also helps to ensure that the corporate-wide sustainability policies are effectively enforced to buildings under the corporates’ real asset portfolio. With the new assessment mechanism – portfolio assessment mechanism, policies and management practices that are common in the portfolio of buildings can be assessed in a single bundle to increase certainty and efficiency.
