AIRSIDE by Nan Fung Group Takes Kai Tak a Sustainable Neighbourhood Built for Wholeness


Located in Kai Tak area, AIRSIDE by Nan Fung Group is a 1.9 million sq. ft mixed-use commercial development, comprising of a 47-storey mixed-use building including an over 30-storey Grade A office and a multi-storey retail complex with an interconnected underground shopping street. AIRSIDE is set to open in Q4 2022.

AIRSIDE offers cascading greenery, open-air rooftop, terraces and surrounding grounds that will constitute 33% of the site area. The publicly accessible rooftop garden within the 18,000 sq. ft. of serene green landscape, provides an extensive open space, including an amphitheatre and urban farm. Visitors can enjoy the city’s rich biodiversity, featuring tropical plants, native flora, and lush vegetation against the gleaming skyline.

It is conveniently linked to the basement of the Kai Tak MTR station, all major communities and nearby facilities are easily accessible on foot through a web of elevated walkways and bridges.

AIRSIDE is also a cultural hub, providing a broad spectrum of cultural programmes to encourage interpersonal engagement and thought exchange within the community.

A Sustainable Future

AIRSIDE is also advocating a sustainable green lifestyle supported by unique facilities such as the automatic bicycle parking system which is the first to obtain EMSD approval in Hong Kong to encourage green mobility; the largest PV farm in commercial buildings in Hong Kong of over 15,000 sq. ft. with energy generation of 270,000 kWh/ year (equivalent to 700 residential flats monthly electricity consumption); the largest storm water storage capacity (400 m3) for a commercial building in Hong Kong; the first bio-filtration system / constructed wetland recycles greywater from handwashing for irrigation in all-weather operation all year round; sky farming; automated refuse collection system; and efficient centralised district-cooling and indoor air quality sensor, together making it one of the most environmentally-friendly landmarks in town.

Sun Hung Kai Properties Reaffirms Commitment to Sustainability in Latest Sustainability Report 


 

Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP) published its 2019/20 Sustainability Report, detailing the Group’s enhanced sustainability strategy framework and its latest work in strengthening its governance commitment for the 2019/20 financial year. Guided by its belief in Building Homes with Heart, the Group reviewed its sustainability approach and sharpened the focus and commitment of its sustainability strategy framework. The Group believes this will better consolidate its efforts to contribute to the broad United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals and address stakeholder expectations. 

The Group’s sustainability work has once again received notable recognition in sustainability-related indices. SHKP has remained a constituent member of the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index and the FTSE4Good Global Index series of London. The Group also ranked sixth in the Hong Kong Business Sustainability Index (HKBSI) and fourth in the Greater Bay Area Business Sustainability Index (GBABSI).
 

SHKP’s major work and achievements in the 2019/20 financial year are as follows:

The Environment
  • Accomplished the Group’s five-year energy reduction target and set a new 10-year target for its managed properties
  • Updated the Group’s Environmental Policy with an enhanced commitment to reflect its overarching approach in addressing environmental challenges

People
  • Two of the Group’s subsidiaries completed the migration to the latest and more stringent ISO 45001 Occupational Safety and Health Management System
  • Upgraded the Group’s digital learning platforms to enhance employee-training capacity

Customers
  • The Group’s loyalty programme, the SHKP Club, has more than 420,000 members, expanding the Group’s engagement with customers
  • Improved hygiene standards and utilized technologies to safeguard the health and safety of customers and other property users
  • Introduced smart living concepts through the use of home automation systems and mobile applications in the Group’s latest residential developments

Supply Chain
  • 98% of suppliers were locally based to support the local economy
  • A below industry average accident rate for the Group’s contractors at construction sites

Community
  • Launched a transitional social housing project, United Court, to help ease the local housing shortage for underprivileged families 
  • 2,800 registered volunteers of the SHKP Volunteer Team continued to help the community and have together contributed over 100,000 service hours to date

The first virtual Hong Kong Green Building Week 2020 successfully “Team Up” with general public to explore Green Building online!


Co-organised by the Construction Industry Council (CIC) and the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC), the annual public event “Hong Kong Green Building Week 2020” (HKGBW 2020) took place virtually from 5 to 11 December. Under the theme of “Green Buildings - TEAM UP for a Zero-carbon Future”, a series of online programmes have been launched on HKGBC's Facebook page to educate the public on the climate emergency in reducing carbon emissions, and how green buildings assist to mitigate the issue. Great numbers of audience engaged in our programmes and joined our games!

Opening Ceremony & TEAM UP Quiz Competition (Full version)

In the Opening Ceremony, distinguished guests including Mr WONG Kam-sing, Secretary for the Environment, Mr Ivan FU, Chairperson of Committee on Environment of CIC, Mr CHEUNG Hau-wai, Chairman of HKGBC, and Mr Raymond WONG Ho-yin, the event ambassador kick-started the event. Mr WONG and Raymond then teamed up with artists and students to participate in an exciting quiz game to test their knowledge about green buildings and carbon reduction. “Green Building ‘TEAM’ Chat”

Mr LEUNG Wing-mo, Former Assistant Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, alongside Tony IP, Green Architect, Lance LAU, Young Climate Activist, Norman and Loretta, Facebook bloggers who embrace sustainable lifestyles, were invited to discuss how green buildings can help reduce carbon emissions from the environmental perspective, as well as to educate and encourage the public to adopt a sustainable lifestyle.

The Tours featured various Green Buildings with three different themes, diving deeply into the buildings’ design to explore how green buildings enhance the quality of life among urban communities.

BEAM Plus WRAP UP 2020 


 
It has been 10 years since the establishment of BEAM Plus – a green building rating system in Hong Kong! The Hong Kong Green Building Council would like to share with you the magnificent achievement of BEAM Plus. Up till 28 December 2020, the number of registered projects has reached 1,676, accounting for Gross Floor Area (GFA) of more than 54,000,000 sq. m. Among these BEAM Plus projects, 739 have been certified with Bronze rating or above. They have outperformed the basic assessment standards, while some have even adopted innovative designs to reach high sustainability performance.


In 2020, over 200 projects have been certified with various Final Assessment ratings and Provisional Platinum ratings under BEAM Plus. To introduce the certified projects this year, a series of 4 videos, hosted by Ms Karen CHENG, was produced:

BEAM Plus Existing Buildings: Resources and Insights All at One Place

 


With the Hong Kong Green Building Council’s ambitious goal to accelerate the sustainability transformation of existing buildings, the BEAM Plus Existing Buildings (EB) resources website has been launched.  A number of insights and learning materials is available to explore:
 
  • A step-by-step guide on how to apply for BEAM Plus certification: from registration to certification, you can navigate all the information, manuals and fee scale easily in this centralised resources platform.
 
  • Which BEAM Plus EB scheme suits your building(s): there are several schemes under the BEAM Plus EB certification in order to provide flexibility in the assessment. Insights have been provided for selecting the scheme that best suits your building.
 
  • A service provider directory that helps with your building certification: find your consultant or contracting service providers here for professional advice in attaining BEAM Plus Existing Buildings certification.
 
  • Learning materials about existing buildings: learn the latest practices and knowledge of existing buildings by exploring our selected online CPD courses and useful websites.

Eco-Product Directory in Its Pilot Phase

 

The Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) is pleased to announce the piloting of the Eco-Product Directory, an online directory featuring green and eco-friendly building & construction materials and products. The directory serves to facilitate Hong Kong’s building and construction practitioners in sourcing and procurement of materials and products with minimal environmental impacts. 

The directory is in the pilot stage as we are constantly enhancing its features.  Upon aggregating a sizeable cluster of products and materials, HKGBC will formally launch and market the directory to both public and private stakeholders such as property developers, architects, consultants, engineers etc.  Listing in the directory will therefore maximise the exposure of products in the local building and construction industry as HKGBC will proactively promote and develop the directory into a leading green online procurement platform for practitioners to achieve a greener built environment.

To be qualified as list items of the directory, materials and products are required to demonstrate their contribution to the environment by acquiring certain recognised worldwide certification(s).  Details of such certifications can be viewed HERE.
