Hactl Fosters Cross-sector Collaboration through Community Project "Revive and Thrive"

Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) has joined hands with Jardine Matheson head office, the shareholder of Hactl, a local social enterprise DOSHA Woodcraft, and a Hong Kong-based non-profit organisation People Service Centre, to co-host the community project "Revive and Thrive" in 2023.

Hactl has been striving to enhance its recycling rate to reduce the burden on the environment. With its ongoing collaboration with contractors, its recycling rates for plastic and paper have reached 99% and 96% respectively. To further enhance its recycling capabilities for wooden pallets, the Company has explored various innovative approaches, which has led to this cross-sectoral partnership on upcycling.

Through this project, the working team has collected discarded wooden pallets at Hactl's SuperTerminal 1, and then transformed them into upcycled furniture and tablet holders for grassroots families in the community.

Since the launch of the project in April 2023, more than 200 volunteers across the Jardine Matheson Group have visited subdivided flat residents, taken part in woodcraft workshops, and delivered upcycled tablet holders and tailored furniture to 66 children from grassroots families and 6 beneficiary families.

The 6-month community project demonstrates the positive impacts of cross-sector collaborations, as well as calls for greater awareness of the multifaceted aspects of sustainability in business operations and community engagement.

Kerry Properties Debuts Green Lease Programme To Foster Sustainable Practices Among Tenants

Kerry Properties Limited has embarked on a pilot Green Lease Programme, which commenced in the third quarter of this year. This pioneering Programme, one of the first of its kind in Hong Kong, is designed to incentivise the Group's commercial tenants to lower their energy consumption and adopt eco-friendly practices.

The Green Lease Programme operates through an in-depth collaboration with the Group's office tenant at Enterprise Square Five. As part of the Green Lease Programme, energy meters are installed in participating leased premises to monitor energy usage and efficiency, which includes air-conditioning and water consumption. Tenants who successfully reduce their energy consumption will be offered monetary incentives. The Green Lease Programme has been met with affirmative support and positive feedback from the tenant since its inception.

The Green Lease Programme is designed to encourage the Group's commercial tenants to optimise their energy use and minimise their carbon footprint within their operations, particularly in reducing Scope 3 carbon emissions. It is set to gradually extend to a broader participation within the Group's commercial tenants across Hong Kong and the Mainland.

Guided by the principles of its Vision 2030 sustainability strategy, Kerry Properties has established an array of short-, mid- and long-term carbon reduction targets, and is actively engaging with stakeholders on its path towards carbon neutrality.

BEAM Plus Interiors (BI) was first introduced in 2013. It aims to recognise the effort put into the sustainable design of green interiors including office and retail premises, hotel rooms, clubhouses, function rooms, restaurants, and industrial, educational and institutional facilities. In order to comply with the latest government standards and integrate the best project practices, the tool has been revamped. Its assessment scope has also been expanded to include residential flat units, creating the first-ever assessment tool for green domestic interiors in Hong Kong. Residential flat units are assessed with a simple and user-friendly checklist, making the new tool accessible for everyone in the community. It is hoped that this approach will encourage even more public participation in creating a sustainable built environment.
