Chinachem Group first to introduce “Enertainer” to promote clean energy use on construction sites
Donald Choi, Executive Director and Group CEO of Chinachem Group said, "Chinachem Group attaches great importance to sustainable development and is dedicated to incorporating the concept of sustainable development into its core businesses, creating positive value for people, the community and the environment as it shapes the city. As the first real estate developer in Hong Kong to introduce Enertainer, we hope to promote clean energy and the sustainable development of Hong Kong, while also supporting start-ups in their innovation and technology development. Enertainer has been applied first on the Anderson Road project site and will be extended to our other development projects."
Enertainer is the first purpose-built construction energy storage system in the world. It has been developed by Ampd Energy in Hong Kong. Compared with diesel generators, Enertainer is smaller in size and nearly silent, will not emit dark smoke from burning diesel, and can reduce carbon emissions by up to 85% or up to 200 tonnes per year. It can effectively lessen the air pollution – equivalent to removing 200 to 400 passenger cars from the road, noise and fire risk caused by diesel generators on construction sites.

Driving Sustainable Development at The Quayside
Manage and improve buildings’ energy efficiency with “EcoStruxure™ for Building”
The Quayside is an award-winning commercial building in Kowloon East CBD. Since its opening in 2019, Schneider Electric has been empowering the building to achieve its sustainability goals with EcoStruxure for Building, an IoT-enabled architecture, which optimises the building’s power distribution, lighting and HVAC through 30,000 connection points, and visualises their energy consumption for lifetime energy efficiency improvements, in turn delivering a superior indoor environment for occupants’ experiences.
At the same time, EcoStruxure Building Operation integrates multiple systems for centralised, real-time control and management across the building at The Quayside, delivering actionable insights for better management and optimisation of building performance. Automation Servers and VAV Controllers adjust the air volume based on data collected from a series of connected field devices, including CO₂, temperature and humidity sensors, thus improving indoor air quality and enhancing ventilation.
To add to the building’s green portfolio, The Quayside’s parking spaces are equipped with 100 Schneider Electric EVlink Charging Stations. This will continue to drive EV adoption in Hong Kong by providing drivers with convenient and seamless driving experience, making the property one of the most electric-car-friendly buildings in Hong Kong.
Schneider Electric partners with Link REIT and Nan Fung Group on The Quayside’s sustainable development, co-creating Hong Kong as a Smart City.

Learn about Carbon Footprint & Green Product Certification through courses and webinars
Taking the opportunity of the slightly improved COVID-19 epidemic situation, Hong Kong Green Building Council organised two courses and one webinar in August and September, with a total number of 80 participants.
The online awareness course introduced the concepts and background of climate change, greenhouse gases (GHGs), principles of Carbon Footprint (CFP) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies, current regulations and types of carbon labels in the market.
Following the government’s social distancing measures, the auditor course took place in physical classroom. The training targeted the rebar or structural steel industry, and focused on carbon emission reporting and auditing procedures with the ultimate goal of emissions reduction. This was the third series of carbon related courses after the successful completion of the first two series focusing on cement and ready-mixed concrete in July 2019.
In early September this year, an experience sharing session on Green Procurement with Hong Kong Air-conditioning & Refrigeration Association (ACRA) for the ACRA members was conducted online. During the webinar, Dr Benny Chow, Director of Sustainability of Aedas Hong Kong and Dr Amie Lai, Senior Sustainable Development Manager of Swire Properties delivered talks on green procurement. Dr Chow gave an overview of CIC Green Product Certification and Eco-Product Directory, and provided illustrated examples on Government’s incentives to further encourage applications. Besides, Dr Lai addressed the low carbon building development through green procurement, with a strong emphasis on wider adoption of green building materials.
CIC Green Product Certification’s successful applications exceeded the 500 mark
HKGBC continues to streamline the application procedures through engagement with the industry including revisions of assessment criteria for Air Handling Unit (AHU), Fan Coil Unit (FCU), cement, ready-mixed concrete and reinforcing bar and structural steel. The update of criteria not only closely align the Certification with the latest market and technological advancements, but also foster wider adoption of the certified products.
Learn to Protect the Environment at Green Schools
Currently, there are over 2,000 schools in Hong Kong. Campus greening can benefit students with experiential learning about green so as to raise students’ environmental awareness.
Kowloon Technical School has achieved Excellent grade under Site Aspect of BEAM Plus Existing Buildings V2.0 Selective Scheme. Vertical green wall and shading devices are installed to lower the indoor temperature at school. The green features not only aid to reduce the energy consumption of the school in air conditioning, but also alleviate the urban heat island effect.
Green features can also be found at the newly built school campuses. Regarding the architectural design, these campuses maintain a healthy and comfortable environment. Having lessons in a quality indoor environment allows students to yield better learning outcomes. There are a number of school campuses that achieved Final Gold rating under BEAM Plus New Buildings, for example, Hong Kong International School, Lower Primary School, Cognitio College (Kowloon), Po Leung Kuk Stanley Ho Sau Nan Primary School and Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Ma Kam Chan Memorial Primary School (Main Campus) etc.
BEAM Plus Online Exhibition is now showcasing over 150 certified BEAM Plus projects. Students can learn more about green building there. Check it out at the website!
